Non-Directive and Child Centred Play Therapy in Aberdeen

Hi, I’m Sharlene!

I’m pleased you’ve found your way to Mixed Emotions. I’d like to share a little about myself and my journey into the world of Play Therapy.

Relationships are important to me. I am grateful for the connections I have, that I believe enrich my life. I’ve always been passionate about working with children. I truly appreciate spending time in their company and hold a great deal of respect for them as individuals. I believe all children are special and should be valued for their own unique qualities.

I worked as a Nursery Nurse before having time away from work to focus on my own health and family. My return to work was prompted when we moved to another city, and I was fortunate to find employment within paediatrics. Firstly, in the community as an Occupational Therapy Support Worker and then in a hospital setting as a Nursery Nurse in Neonatal Care.

In these roles, I worked with children of various ages, from premature babies to older primary school aged children. I learned a lot about child development and ways of supporting the needs of those who face some unique challenges. I realised that taking care of our emotional health is vital if we are to reach our full potential, and the earlier we do so the better.

I decided to explore how I could support the emotional health of children, and it was then that I discovered Play Therapy- a specialism that resonated deeply with me and combined my love of working with children and building relationships. A spark was ignited within me as I embarked on a 3-year Master’s degree to become a Play Therapist, as I witnessed the transformative power of play in a therapeutic setting.

I am proud to be a full member of the British Association of Play Therapists (BAPT), and I am dedicated to providing compassionate support to children and their families, who are facing emotional challenges. I would appreciate the opportunity to support your child, and I look forward to the possibility of collaborating with you in this effort.
